Intercessory missionary
Just like there are missionaries who go to other nations and serve, so also the Lord is raising up missionaries whose full time occupation is to pray. As an ‘intercessory missionary’ I have dedicated myself full time to the work of the ministry. Though my ministry does include works of justice, evangelism, and preaching the gospel, my primary ministry is in the place of prayer and ministering unto the Lord.
All over the earth today there is great injustice and darkness is predominately ruling the hearts of men. I believe that the missing component of seeing justice released on the earth is a church that prays. The only way to see things shift and change in the natural realm is by first shifting and changing them in the spiritual realm through prayer. (Jer. 5:1; Amos 9:11; Zeph. 1:12, 2:3; Zech. 12:10; Matt. 26:38, 40; 6:5-13; Lk. 18:7-8; 21:35-36)
Of course all of us as believers are all called to love Jesus and to have a prayer life, but He is specifically calling forth intercessors whose full time job occupation is to stand in the gap and minister before Him. I believe the business man who works 40 hours a week in the market place or the stay at home mom can be just as much an instrument of change as the full time intercessor.
Prayer is what changes the spiritual atmosphere over cities and regions. A foundation premise of an “Intercessory Missionary” is Ephesians 6:12 as it tells us that “…the battle which we are fighting is not again flesh and blood (things that we can see) but against principalities and powers in the heavenly realm”. This means that the battle against abortion and human trafficking are not primarily being fought in the natural realm, but rather we are fighting a battle that is taking place in the spirit realm where angels are warring against demons and principalities. Angels and demons move because of prayers of the saints. (Ps. 149:6-9; Eph. 6:12; Phil. 2:9-11)
This is why I stand with a heart of faith today even though the ending of abortion in our nation looks hopeless from the governmental realm, I believe that by prayer and fasting the Lord can give visions and dreams in a moment and forever shake the heads of state, kings, and rulers.
21 He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings… (Dan. 2:21)
1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him. (Dan. 2:1)
24 This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king, 25 you shall be driven from your home and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and you shall eat grass as oxen… until you know that the most high God rules over the kingdoms of men. (Dan. 4:24-25).
We know God already has the victory and Jesus already has all power and authority over evil, but He desires to bring change to the earth in partnership with His people. I am convinced that change will not happen unless we partner with Him through prayer to release His kingdom on the earth. On the day that the Lord returns He will fully exercise and manifest the power that He possesses, but until that day He longs to partner with His people in releasing justice. (Is. 2:2, 12, 17-21; 9:7; 63:1-6; Joel 1:13-15; 2:1-2, 12-17; Eph. 1:21-22 Rev. 11:15-19)
One of the scriptural requirements for God to release the fullness of revival and return to the earth is day and night prayer. Scripture makes this abundantly clear and history also proves that God will not move in fullness apart from night and day prayer (Lev. 6:13; Ps. 149; Matt. 28:18-20; Lk 2:36-38; 24:49; Rev. 22:17).
A good example of the ‘intercessory missionary’ calling is found in Luke 2:36-38. The prophetess Anna ministered to the Lord day and night, fasting and praying in the temple from the time she was very young. She did many other things in her ministry but her primary ministry was in the place of prayer as she prepared the spiritual atmosphere for Jesus’ first coming to the earth. One of the scriptural requirements for God to release the fullness of revival and return to the earth is day and night prayer. Scripture makes this abundantly clear and history also proves that God will not move in fullness apart from night and day prayer. (Lev. 6:13; Ps. 149; Matt. 28:18-20; Lk 2:36-38; 24:49; Rev. 22:17)
I am called to stand in the gap on behalf of the wicked
“I looked for a man who would stand in the gap before me on behalf of the (wicked) land, but I found none. Therefore I will pour out my wrath on them…” (Ezek. 22:30-31)
I am seeking to live out Joel 2:12-14 and call others to return to the place of prayer and cry out for mercy
12 Even now declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping and mourning. 13 Rend (tear) your heart and not your garments…who knows, He may turn and have pity and leave a blessing behind… (Joel 2:12-14).
I believe it is the prayers of the saints at the end of the age which will release the end time judgments on the earth
8 And when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints (Rev. 5:8)
Three primary reasons I have given myself to day and night prayer
Worthiness of Christ
The primary reason I give myself to night and day prayer is because Jesus is worthy of incessant worship and praise. The greatest injustice there could ever be is the fact that God, the one who laid down His life for all men, is not perpetually adored as He is in heaven.
4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple (Ps. 27:4)
Justice
For one of the 4,000 babies who will be aborted today in the United States alone, I am a voice for the voiceless. For the countless thousands of women and children who are being sold into sex trafficking, I am a voice who stands before the throne of God and cries out for justice to be released to them. My job occupation is to cry out on behalf of the weak, the poor, and the oppressed of the earth.
30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. (Ez. 22:30)
Messenger
I believe that we are living in a very unique hour of history and that Jesus is soon returning to the earth. More and more we are seeing an increase of wickedness and wars and rumors of wars. These kinds of trends should not shock us because they we see they prophesied in the Bible. I am seeking to live my life in such a way that I would bear a message that Jesus is coming to the earth and He is jealous and will remove everything that hinders love. Just as John the Baptist prepared the way for the first coming of the Lord so I long to be one who prepares people for the return of Jesus back to the earth (Isa. 40:3; Mal. 3:1)
Lu 3:4 …as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight.
