About IHOP-KC

In a little room in South Kansas City there has been no silence for the past ten years as the unceasing adoration and praise of Jesus continues even at this very moment. Fueled by singers and musicians primary between the ages of 18-25, the prayer meeting at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City has literally gone non-stop since September 19th 1999. At the center of all that goes on at the International House of Prayer Missions Base is the 24/7 prayer room.

IHOP-KC is patterned after the Tabernacle of David (1 Chronicles 23:1–25:31) where King David set singers and musicians to minister before the Lord day and night.

What does it look like? The first prayer room in September ’99 was simply four trailers welded together which formed what was called the “Bethlehem stable.” Now several years later there are eight hundred chairs that face the three foot elevated stage at the far end of the room which is home to keyboards, electric, acoustic, and bass guitars, a drum set, and microphones to project the worship leaders, singers and intercessors who are constantly worshipping and ministering unto the Lord.

24/7 web streaming: Eight state of the art TV cameras are barely noticeable as they hang from the ceiling on rotatable arms of steel to capture and broadcast the prayer meetings LIVE for our web stream (www.ihop.org/theprayerroom) and GodTV (www.god.tv) viewers. Thousands all across the earth are joining in with the prayer room on a daily basis.

Breaking it down: How do you sustain something around the clock literally day and night? With 168 hours in a week the worship leading schedule is broken down into 12 two-hour blocks each day. That’s 84 two hour prayer meetings every week. Whether there are a 100 people in the room at 10am, or whether the room is completely full at 4am, the worship teams are focused upon ministering before an audience of One. Their goal: worshipping, adoring, and honoring the One who sits upon the throne as they partner with His heart of justice in the place of intercession.

365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, night and day, non-stop there are musicians and singers who never stop ministering unto the Lord. Currently over 200+ visitors from all over the nations visit the prayer room on a weekly basis, not for a performance or concert, but rather for a solemn assembly. It is all of this and more which comprises the International House of Prayer Global Prayer Room in South Kansas City, MO.

Mary of Bethany extravagantly worshiped Jesus by pouring her flask of costly perfume upon Him (Mark 14:1-10). For this the disciples criticized her yet Jesus commended her. It is our desire to worship Jesus in this same way by pouring ourselves out before Him as a fragrant offering. We long for IHOP to be a place of encounter – a place for personal transformation, fresh revelation, and training in the Word; a place where hearts are set free and bodies are healed; a place where believers are unified and fresh direction is received; a place where we can gather to intercede for the in-breaking of revival.

Our mandates include:

  • To train believers to love Jesus and others from the place of day and night prayer together with going forth to preach the Word, heal the sick, serve the poor, and plant houses of prayer
  • In Revelation 4 we are given a glimpse into God’s throne room in heaven. Surrounding him day and night is non-stop worship. Our desire is to mirror that which is being done in heaven and giving Jesus that which He is worthy of, day and night exaltation because he is worthy. While much of the world uses His name as a curse word, it is our desire to worship him day and night.
  • To train singers and musicians to be singing theologians who are in tune with His heart and prophesy through music and song.
  • Watching and waiting – Jesus said, “Be found watching and waiting lest that day come on your unexpectedly.
  • Out of the 24/7 prayer reality we are committed to raising up forerunners who will be sent out and prepare the church as a bride for the soon coming return of the Bridegroom and the unique dynamics of the end times.

We invite you to join with us as we set our hearts to love God, and dedicate our lives to serving Him without reservation as we prepare the way of the Lord through night and day worship and intercession.
